An Inside Look at Our Local Police Departments
Last month I had the opportunity to do a “ride along” with Darien Police Officer Leslie Silva learning more about the police department and our local community along the way.
During our ride around town, I was able to gain an in-depth and personal look at how our local police departments operate, and therefore gain a better understanding of the myriad pressures facing our police on a daily basis. Recent news events involving police across the country have put an intense spotlight on their role in the community and by listening and talking directly with local police, I look forward to working more effectively on their behalf from a legislative standpoint.
It was truly an enlightening experience.
I sincerely thank Officer Silva and the entire Darien Police Department for welcoming me last week and sharing their needs and concerns. I am so proud of our brave men and women who honor their badges daily, and know just how much our support means to their efforts.
Last fall, I also participated in the Norwalk Citizens Police Academy, an eleven night course that covered all aspects of the police department. It was an eye-opening, highly educational and gave me further understanding of how much our police do in the course of any day. It is a class well worth taking.
