An Inside Look at Our Local Police Departments

TerrieWoodDarienPDridealongLast month I had the opportunity to do a “ride along” with Darien Police Officer Leslie Silva learning more about the police department and our local community along the way.

During our ride around town, I was able to gain an in-depth and personal look at how our local police departments operate, and therefore gain a better understanding of the myriad pressures facing our police on a daily basis. Recent news events involving police across the country have put an intense spotlight on their role in the community and by listening and talking directly with local police, I look forward to working more effectively on their behalf from a legislative standpoint.

It was truly an enlightening experience.

I sincerely thank Officer Silva and the entire Darien Police Department for welcoming me last week and sharing their needs and concerns. I am so proud of our brave men and women who honor their badges daily, and know just how much our support means to their efforts.

Last fall, I also participated in the Norwalk Citizens Police Academy, an eleven night course that covered all aspects of the police department.  It was an eye-opening, highly educational and gave me further understanding of how much our police do in the course of any day. It is a class well worth taking.

The Norwalk Police Department, in addition, will be hosting a Citizens Police Academy every Monday and Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., September 14 – October 24, with the exception of Columbus Day. Those interested in joining to learn more about our local police department and law enforcement, as well as participate in their own ride-along with on-duty police officers, can call Lt. Terry Blake at 203-854-3074.
